I am drawn to problems of representation that confess a particular futility. The fixing of an image -- an image, for example, of the Abominable Snowman or a Cumulonimbus Incus cloud, entities that are by their very nature vagrant and fleeting -- is a self-conscious attempt to investigate the inevitable failure inborn in the work. My project, therefore, is to confess the gap between the metaphysics of form and the immanence of experience. My hope is to balance an over determined conception of the beautiful with the pathetic. In turn, the gap between the beautiful and the pathetic seems to present another pairing of significance -- that between the absurd and some sort of grace.
